YALE REFRIGERANTS INITIATIVE

Student-led, grant-funded project to tackle key challenges of the climate emergency

The Yale Refrigerants Initiative (YRI) is a grant-funded project aimed at phasing down hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) and hydrochlorofluorocabon (HCFC) refrigerants, classes of greenhouse gases thousands of times more potent compared with carbon dioxide. This project is the first of its kind and scope on a university campus in the country.

Currently, YRI is focused on conducting an inventory of refrigerant gases at Yale University. Project members aim to develop programmatic and policy approaches to streamline the campus transition to low-Global Warming Potential Refrigerants.

YRI recently co-hosted "Climate Friendly Cooling Pledge and New Regulations Affecting Universities: Opportunities and Implications," a webinar about refrigerant management on college and university campuses on Wednesday, June 2, at 3:00 PM ET. You can watch a recording of the event here
